Soil Mixes

The soil mixes Kevin Want Sand & Shale has available contain a combination of compost and gardening soil.

These mixes are best used for potted plants as they hold moisture and nutrients well. Soil mix is also loose and drains well, reducing the likelihood of root rot.

Top Dressing

If your lawn is looking sparse or uneven, enquire about our top dressing products.

Top dressing helps improve lacklustre lawns by reducing the accumulation of grass clippings and stems, known as thatch. It also assists the soil by increasing nutrient retention, improving drainage and increasing the resistance to disease and pest influxes.

For more information about when is best to top dress your lawn, see our FAQs page.

Chicken Manure

Chicken manure is ideal for use in vegetable garden fertilising. As it is high in nitrogen and contains fair amounts of both potassium and phosphorus, chicken manure is arguably the best type of manure on the market.

Mushroom Compost

Mushroom compost is made of a blend of organic compost and milled straw. It is an ideal soil improver for all garden types.

You can apply our mushroom compost to your fruit, flower or vegetable garden to improve the condition and performance of the soil. The compost will improve the moisture retention and enhance the nutrients in the soil to promote healthy plant growth.

This type of compost is ideal as cover mulch and works well incorporated into soil.

Mulch

While mulching your garden is not mandatory there are a number of benefits that make it a worthwhile addition to your gardening habits.

Mulching helps to hold moisture in the soil, preventing your plants from drying out. It will also break down over time and contribute to the overall health of your soil.

Our organic mulches are great for inhibiting weed growth and pest infestations.
